Ampersand Blue is a boutique editorial service offering individualized support to authors and workshops on scholarly publishing. We are a small team with strong professional backgrounds in writing, editing and publishing in university settings in Asia, and we draw on decades of professional experience helping authors prepare manuscripts in English. Our editorial packages help authors understand writing for publication in English-language academic journals. We evaluate manuscripts from the perspective of a journal editor or publisher, and provide suggestions about organization, sentence-level writing, and the narrative flow of a manuscript. We offer five editorial packages as described below.
Complimentary Assessments
Editorial decisions begin with titles, abstracts, introductory paragraphs, and conclusions. As an introductory offer, we provide free assessments of these elements in manuscripts written for scholarly journals, calling attention to reasons a manuscript might be rejected. This information allows authors to deal with potential issues before sending their work to an editor.

Free of Charge
Article Planning
Explaining the concept of an article and the source material behind it helps authors articulate their ideas and clarify their thinking. It can also expose flawed approaches to a topic. Ampersand Blue offers authors the opportunity to discuss ideas for a manuscript with an experienced editor familiar with the way journals evaluate submissions, and the reasons manuscripts fail. Such a conversation can be helpful at any stage in the writing process, and invaluable in getting an article published.

Evaluation of Completed Manuscripts
The Ampersand Blue editorial team provides written reports on draft manuscripts that address writing issues and offer ideas for addressing them. We also prepare sample peer reviews that evaluate the presentation of information and analysis in the way a referee might. After sending these reports, we will arrange an online meeting to discuss the manuscript and our comments.

Remedial Editing
Editors routinely ask authors to “revise and resubmit” their manuscripts based on referees’ reports. While this response shows serious interest, reworking a completed article can be extremely difficult. Discussing the concept and presentation of material and the comments of the referees with an experienced editor can help a writer deal with the changes an editor expects. We offer authors written evaluations and online discussions based on the feedback they have received.​

Advanced Copy Editing
Academic writing often contains extra words and circumlocutions that interfere with communication. We upgrade English-language manuscripts by removing unnecessary words and phrases, improving sentence structures and word choices, and suggesting other editorial changes so that manuscripts read naturally and meet professional standards.
